Professor Sujit Mandal is a Professor of Geography and Director, IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell), Diamond Harbour Women’s University. He was the former Head, Department of Geography and former Dean, Faculty of Science, Diamond Harbour Women’s University (2018-2021). He served Raja N.L.Khan Women’s College, Midnapore since 2005 to 2014. He performed as Head, Department of Geography, University of Gour Banga from 2014 to 2017. He completed his research on applied Geomorphology. He is specialized in the field of Fluvial Geomorphology, Soil and Environment, Geoinformatics, Applied Geomorphology and Hazards and Risk Management. Professor Mandal completed both B.Sc. and M.SC. in Geography from Calcutta University. He completed Ph.D. under the Faculty of Science of Vidyasagar University in 2013 on “Landslides in Darjeeling Himalaya”. At present Professor Mandal is deeply engaged in the studies of river dynamics, carbon sequestration, resilience to hazards and disasters, salt water intrusion, river basin management, large dams and hydrologic alteration.
Professor Mandal is the author of more than 80 research articles published from reputed national and international Journals. Professor Mandal is the author of six books published form reputed International Publishing Houses i.e. Springer Publishing House, Routledge, and Cambridge Publishing House. He was the principal investigator of one Minor research project sponsored by UGC and one major research project sponsored by ICSSR (Indian Council of Social Science Research). Professor Mandal has been associated with several academic bodies/activities of University of Burdwan, Vidyasagar University, Netaji Subhas Open University, Sidhoo-Kanhoo University, Barasat State University, Jadavpur University, Calcutta University etc. Professor Mandal successfully guided several Ph.D. research scholars and eight research scholars are pursuing Ph.D. under his supervision. Professor Mandal received ‘Certificate of Reviewing Award’ in May 2017 by the Editors of GEOSCIENCE FRONTIERS, Elsevier, Amsterdam, The Netherland. He also Received ‘SIKSHARATNA AWARD 2019’ from the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal during the state level ‘Teacher’s Day’ celebration programme on the 5th of September, 2019 at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata. Professor Mandal has been enlisted in World Scientist and University Ranking 2023 under AD Scientific Index 2023 Ranking framework according to total H index.
