Prof. Nilanjana Das Chatterjee : IAGR Conference 2024

  Dr. Nilanjana Das Chatterjee is Professor and HOD in the Department of Geography, at Vidyasagar University, West Bengal, India. She is serving this Department for 18 years. Before joining this department she served Haldia Government College under WBHES for 04 years. Her principal areas of interest are Landscape ecology, urban land use and planning, Environment and Bio-Geography with special reference to Forest landscape Ecology and Human-elephant conflict, Folk and Indigenous culture, and women-related issues. She emphasizes using spatial evaluation strategies for urban ecology and green space management. She has completed a major research project on Human Elephant Conflict and a Research Programme on Geospatial analysis of Crime against Women in WB. ICSSR, New Delhi funded both projects. Currently, she is pursuing another major project funded by ICSSR, on Indigenous knowledge and environmental conservation among the tribes of Jungle Mahal. She is an IUCN-CEM member since 2017. She has published more than 100 research articles in high-impact factor Sci journals. Her collaborative research works are published in books by International publication houses like Springer, Routledge, Elsevier, etc. Recently she published an edited book from Springer on ‘Environmental Management and Sustainability in India’ and another book on ‘Advanced GIS and Crime Analysis: Violence against Women in West Bengal, India’ from Routledge. Along with publication, she delivered many lectures, especially on urban environment and women-related issues. Ten research scholars achieved their Ph.D. Degree under her guidance and ten research scholars were awarded their M.Phil. Dissertation under her supervision.
