Dr. Bishal Nath Upreti : IAGR Conference 2024

Prof. Dr. Bishal Nath Upreti is an eminent geoscientist and academic leader with a specialization in structural geology, tectonics, engineering geology, disaster management, and paleoseismology. With a distinguished career spanning over four decades, he has held prestigious positions, including Full Professor at the University of Zambia and Tribhuvan University, Nepal, where he served as Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology.

Dr. Upreti has contributed significantly to geoscientific research, particularly in the Himalayan region, and has collaborated with global institutions in countries like France, Japan, the USA, and China. His work on seismic hazards, glacial retreat, and disaster risk reduction has received international recognition, including the C.N.R. Rao Prize for Scientific Research by TWAS.

A prolific author with over 7,000 citations and an H-index of 34, Dr. Upreti has mentored numerous MSc and PhD scholars and played a pivotal role in disaster preparedness initiatives in Nepal. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and has received multiple national and international honors for his lifetime contributions to geoscience and disaster management.
