Dr. Indrajit Roy Chowdhury

Dr. Indrajit Roy Chowdhury started his academic work in the field of Urban and Regional Planning, Transport Geography, GIS and remote sensing. He has more than 90 research publications in high-quality peer reviewed journals in the topics covering from urban environmental and infrastructural issues, regional planning, women empowerment, Crime, and gender related issues in the various reputed international and national journals like International Journal of Humanities and Social Science Invention, International Journal of Research and Analytical Review, Geographical Review of India, Transactions, Indian Journal of spatial science and many other standard peer reviewed journals and edited books and monographs. Noteworthy to mention these publications are under the house of Elsevier, Sage and Springer entitled the Journal of Modelling Earth Systems and Environment, Arabian Journal of Geosciences and, Environmental Challenges, Sustainability, MDPI, Environment, Development and Sustainability, Springer, Geo-journal, Geo-Carto International, Current Research in Environmental Sustainability, Elsevier, Voice of Dalit, Sage and many more. Dr. Roy Chowdhury has published three edited volumes entitled ‘Contemporary Regional Problems: Issues and Challenges (2020) Rajesh Publication, New Delhi, ISBN: 978-81-84687-25-7. Population, Development and Environmental Sustainability Challenges and Opportunities (2021): Rajesh Publication, New Delhi, ISBN: 978-93- 91139-21-6 and Contemporary Issues of Urban Development in 21st Century: Planning and Practices (2022): Rajesh Publication, New Delhi, ISBN: 978-93-91139-48-3. Recently Dr. Roy Chowdhury has edited another book from Springer, Nature, Switzerland entitled on “Climate Crisis, Social Responses and Sustainability: SocioEcological Study on Global Perspectives (2024). His research has been funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Government of West Bengal. Dr. Roy Chowdhury has recently completed a project on the ‘Problem and Prospect and Opportunities of Homestay Tourism in Sub-Himalayan North Bengal’ funded by the University of North Bengal. Dr. Roy Chowdhury has been funded by ICSSR, New Delhi for Major Research Project, entitled ‘Understanding Quality of Life (QoL) of the Tribe in the hilly region of Darjiling and Kalimong District, West Bengal, India: A Future Road Map Towards Sustainable Development’.  He has also been completed by another minor research project funded by the University of North Bengal entilted’ Assessment of Livelihood Status of Tribal Communities in Darjiling Himalayan Region: A Geographical Study’. Currently Dr. Roy Chowdhury has been awarded as Project Co-Ordinator from ICSSR, New Delhi funded major research project on Mission Vikshit Bharat@2047. He has also supervised another funded collaborative project with AKD Centre of Planning and Development, Viswabharati University Shantiniketan, West Bengal India, entitled’ Effect of COVID 19 outbreak on the Quality of Life of the Toto Tribe in Madarihat Birpara Block, Alipurduar District, West Bengal, India’. He has served as a reviewer for many international journals. Dr. Roy Chowdhury did his graduation in Geography Honours from Asutosh College, Kolkata. in 2005 and did his Masters in Geography from University of Calcutta in 2007. He was awarded Ph.D. degree by the University of Calcutta in 2015. His area of research in Ph.D. was ‘Urban Transport and Vehicular Emissions in Kolkata city’. A number of research scholars are also carrying out M.Phil. and Ph.D. research work under his supervision out of which Four research scholars have already been awarded by M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree under his supervision. Dr. Roy Chowdhury conducted Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India and CSIR, New Delhi Sponsored Three Days International Conference on Emerging Issues in Environment, Livelihood and Development: A Future Road Map Towards Sustainable Earth, 26th to 28th January, 2024 in the Department of Geography & Applied Geography, University of North Bengal. He has also been conducted 21 days Winter school Programme in Geo-Spatial Science and Technology, funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
